Passive infrared (PIR) binary motion sensor becomes an attractive technology for tracking systems at home due to their low energy consumption and a broad range of coverage. One of the most challenging issues is the sensor installation and management difficulty. In this paper, we propose a method to identify those PIR locations to solve the most difficult part of the installation by observing motion detection event sequences with given knowledge of the floor plan. Specifically, we estimate the distance between pairs of sensors and identify particular patterns in the observations to predict the rooms where those sensors are most likely located.
