Thai nicknames are more than just for convenience or terms of endearment between family members and close friends; they can be bound up in the very nature of Thai-ness and an important part of Thai culture.
Thus we here propose our ideas on automatic Thai-nickname recommendation methods.
In this paper we show our recommendation methods of suitable Thai nicknames for each Japanese Kanji input.
We consider the three types of similarities between Thai nicknames and Japanese full names; possible meanings included in the original name, Soundex index, and string edit-distance in Roman alphabet.
