Call for Papers - Special Issue of "Network Services and Distributed Processing"
Call for papers - Special issue of "Network Services and Distributed Processing"
Editorial Committee of the Journal of Information Processing
The Journal of the Information Processing Society of Japan (JIP) announces the call for papers for its special issue on “Network Services and Distributed Processing.”
The rapid advancement of generative AI and the enhancement of cyber-physical systems (CPS) technology have elevated the importance of information and communications infrastructure to unprecedented levels. AI models are being deployed not only in cloud data centers but also in edge environments, communication terminals, vehicles, drones, and robots, heralding the arrival of a society where real-world phenomena are captured, analyzed, predicted, and controlled in real time. Concurrently, AI technology is being applied across a wide range of fields, including urban systems, industry, healthcare, and transportation. This is rapidly advancing the formation of a bidirectional loop where analytical results obtained in cyberspace are immediately reflected in the physical space.
In such a society, networks must evolve beyond mere communication pathways to function as a foundational infrastructure that interconnects and coordinates distributed intelligence. Specifically, a broad range of foundational technologies will be required: highly efficient networks supporting the operations of data centers running large-scale AI systems; high-bandwidth, low-latency communication infrastructure enabling real-time CPS; distributed edge inference platforms; and security technologies ensuring their reliability. Furthermore, for these infrastructures to closely support societal activities, application technologies and network service technologies spanning various fields are equally crucial. There is an expectation for the establishment of sophisticated service design contributing to human well-being, the foundational elemental technologies underpinning it, and the construction of frameworks for a broad range of societal services, such as industry, healthcare, and transportation. These will enhance the efficiency of society as a whole and advance human prosperity. Through network services that maximize the utilization of AI and IoT technologies, improvements are anticipated in almost every facet of society.
This special issue invites submissions on network and system infrastructure technologies, service and application technologies, recognition, analysis, and prediction technologies, next-generation cloud computing and distributed processing technologies, and related fields that will realize the future information society infrastructure described above. Contributions ranging from fundamental research to practical applications are welcome.

Submission Guidelines
(1) All papers must be submitted electronically. Please access the following URL and proceed under the submission instructions:
https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/ipsj
Once you have submitted your manuscript, you cannot change it.
So, you must submit the final version of your manuscript.
If, by mistake, you submitted a wrong version, please contact the IPSJ secretariat <s1m-at-ipsj.or.jp> (Replace -at- with @).
In the event you would like to make a submission, you must first create an account on the paper submission Web page. For detailed information, please refer to the manual available from the link “Instructions & Forms” at the top of the submission page.
(2) All papers will be reviewed. The review process will be carried out in the same manner as regular issues. However, you have shorter time than usual (eight weeks) for preparation of your responses to inquiries.
(3) Submission deadline is April 30, 2026.
(4) The special issue will be published on the J-Stage website in February, 2027. Preprint will be published on the IPSJ Journal in February, 2027.
