Journal of Information Processing (JIP) is pleased to announce the call for papers for a special issue of “Network Services and Distributed Processing”.
The Internet has grown to be an indispensable social infrastructure that supports many aspects of our lives. Moreover the Internet is constant position as an infrastructure, the growth of the Internet is still continuing with several changes of its characteristics. For example, various devices become widespread among public, such as not only PCs and workstations but also smartphones, tablets, sensors (e.g. activity meters) and etc. Network technologies for connection between such devices also have been changed to new generation like as the fifth generation mobile communication systems, SDN (Software Defined Network) and NFV (Network Function Virtualization). In addition, new types of network services have appeared such as social network services and big data to provide cyber spaces for communications and knowledge instead of one-to-one of one-to-many communications such as e-mails. To sustain the evolution of the Internet, wide variations of cross-disciplinary and forward-thinking studies will be required in addition to the advanced computing and networking technologies. More specifically, future studies to develop the Internet should include: smart network services that support our living environment using sensors and actuators, content delivery services based on preferences and circumstances of the individual, environments for collaboration over large amount of knowledge, mutual relationship between society and technology in consideration with privacy and security, technologies of next generation mobile communication systems and network operations to provide stable quality of communications and etc. It is essential to discuss wide range of social and technological tasks and its solutions over the above issues in combination of traditional network technologies, including every layer from physical to application ones.
In this special issue which is edited by the guest editor organization, we focus on the challenges for the wide range of research topics “Network Services and Distributed Processing”.
