Journal of Information Processing (JIP) is pleased to announce the call for papers for a special issue of "Network Services and Distributed Processing".
The Internet has been integrated into many aspects of our lives and it becomes indispensable infrastructure. However, the Internet is always changing and evolving. Much kind of devices are getting connected to the Internet, e.g., not only workstation and PC, but also mobile phones, smartphones, home electronics, sensors, and so on. Moreover, services on the Internet now become more multifaceted, e.g., not only one-to-one communication like e-mail and one-to-many communication like Web, but also a space for communication like social network. In addition, new paradigms of Internet use are suggested e.g. not only client-server based, but also overlay-network, cloud computing etc. To keep the evolutions on the Internet, cross-disciplinary study and forward-thinking study are required, in addition to the advancement of traditional network infrastructure, services, and applications. More specifically, the following innovative components including several new insights should be considered: e.g. smart network services based on the sensors and actuators, user-oriented and context-aware content distribution services, collaboration environments based on large scale knowledge sharing, social deployment issues treating privacy and security, communication services under severe environment for wireless network such as rural areas, sparse device distribution areas, etc. The future of the Internet can be actually achieved by harmonious integration between these new components and the existing network technologies, from physical layer of the network to application layer, treating much kind of technological and social issues.
In this special issue, we focus on the challenges for the wide range of research topics "Network Services and Distributed Processing". Dr. Tamio KIHARA of NTT Japan has been invited to act as a guest editor for this special issue.
