Do Scientists Talk Too Much? An Analysis of Information Asymmetry in Scientist–Student Dialogues
○Eriko Saito(Otemon Gakuin University),Teruyuki Hakoda,Toshihisa Hatano(The National Institutes for Quantum Science and Technology)
As science and technology advance, a communication gap has emerged between scientists and the public. In science outreach, scientists often dominate conversations, while the public remains a passive listener. This study investigates such information asymmetry in a fieldwork-based outreach program where quantum scientists engaged with junior high school students.
By modeling science communication as a knowledge transfer system, we quantitatively analyze the imbalance between talking and listening. The findings provide empirical insights for designing more interactive and balanced communication frameworks in future science outreach.
