Smartphone addiction has become a serious social concern, especially among
younger generations, as ownership of smartphones has grown rapidly. Since
over-use of smartphone can be detrimental to health, it is crucial to
comprehend the behavioral characteristics of addiction. Therefore, the aim of
this study is to investigate the statistical characteristics of smartphone usage
patterns, such as app continuous use time, screen touch interval, screen time
duration, and number of screen-on per day. The analysis was based on data from
the smartphone sensor log of outpatients who attended mental health hospitals
for Internet addiction, which was the first long-term follow-up study in this
research area.
