 | 【講演概要】In the last few years, non-volatile memory (NVM) technologies have rapidly been developed and today's NVM technologies (e.g., PCM, STT-MRAM, NVDIMM, and Intel Optane) are revolutionizing the traditional I/O stacks by providing their attractive features, such as byte-addressability, non-volatility, and short-access latency. This talk will briefly review the existing I/O stacks in Linux and rely on examples from the successful previous research to answer the following questions: (1) What is NVM? (2) Why is NVM interesting? (3) How can it be employed in current computer architecture? In this talk, some typical studies will be introduced including ours, which come from revisiting the computer architecture along with NVM. 【略歴】Young Ik Eom received his BS, MS, and PhD degrees in Computer Science and Statistics from Seoul National University, Rep. of Korea, in 1983, 1985, and 1991, respectively. From 1986 to 1993, he was an associate professor at Dankook University in Seoul, Rep. of Korea. He was also a visiting scholar in the Department of Information and Computer Science at the University of California, Irvine, USA, from Sep. 2000 to Aug. 2001. Since 1993, he has been a professor at Sungkyunkwan University in Suwon, Rep. of Korea. He is serving as president of the Korean Institute of Information Scientists and Engineers (KIISE) in 2018. His research interests include virtualization, file systems, operating systems, and cloud systems. |
