Basic Policy about Attending Workshops:
UCS 2007 workshops provide an opportunity to discuss and explore emerging
areas of research in ubiquitous computing systems with a group of
like-minded researchers and practitioners. Workshops may focus on any
aspect of ubiquitous computing systems, established concerns or new ideas.
The goal of the workshop is to share understandings and experiences, to
foster research communities, to learn from each other and to envision
future directions.
Workshops will be held on Sunday 25 November, the day before the main
conference. Please note that acceptance of submitted position papers
requires registration to UCS 2007.
Workshop titles and organizers are listed below. General questions about

W1. The First Workshop on Community Computing

Community computing is a new paradigm for building ubiquitous systems which
can solve problems by the collaboration of entities in ubiquitous
environment. Community computing makes the collaborative and adaptive
service development more intuitive and natural. Many people are researching
various topics for community computing including context modeling, wireless
and sensor networks, and smart objects in the field of ubiquitous
computing. This workshop is intended to act as a focal point for
researchers and practitioners whose works are related to community
computing, to enable them to share their ideas and experiences.

Context-Aware Services

A "ubiquitous networking" is a federated network technology which supports
various enablers such as 3G mobiles, RFID tags, sensors, actuators, etc. It
has enough capability to deal with huge number of IP packets generated from
enablers. At the same time, a lot of broadband contents are requested to be
delivered with perfectly controlled QoS. Efficient and scalable routing and
transport mechanism for supporting such various traffics are fundamental
requirement on the network.
From a service perspective, a number of context or ambient aware services
are envisaged for "ubiquitous networking." A service platform will manage
and create services based on the context. There should be discussions how
to collect and generate user context, how to create or synthesize services
efficiently, and how to develop such systems using emerging software and
hardware technologies. There could be also discussions how to control
network performance based on user policy or service level agreement.
Providing robust security over all ubiquitous networks in a simple fashion
is an important issue associated with service provisioning to users.
Keeping privacy in ubiquitous networks is also a big issue.
The other important aspect is enablers or ubiquitous objects themselves
where users are commonly faced with. What is a suitable design and
implementation of such objects? How they could be connected to a ubiquitous
network to provide contexts or how could they communicate with each other?
This Workshop is one of the best opportunities to address this theme in
sufficient depth and breadth, and is intended to share knowledge and
exchange ideas, thereby promoting new studies and research topics in this area.

W3. Dependable Ubiquiotus Nodes (IWDUN)
Organizers: Hideyuki Tokuda (Keio University), Michael Beigl (TU Braunschweig),
Kazunori Takashio, Jin Nakazawa and Masayuki Iwai (Keio University)
Recent years have seen a rapid proliferation of micro ubiquitous nodes. As
well as o-the-shelf cellular phones, mobile audio players, and portable
game devices, wireless sensor nodes are of great interest for researchers
especially for devel- oping ubiquitous computing systems. Among those
proposed by the academia, particle nodes and Motes have been commercialized
so that we can deploy them for practical applications like environmental
monitoring, remote health care, and context captures. Despite the range of
development of sensor nodes, systems support that ensures their
dependability has not been investigated. We believe that the use of such
micro ubiquitous nodes in practical applications necessi-tates the systems
support that enables users to leverage from those applications without
being burdened by malfunction of the nodes, malicious users attacking them,
or inconsistent behaviors of them. The primary motivation of this work-
shop is hence to nding research issues inherent in achieving dependable
micro ubiquitous nodes, looking at existing research on them, and systems
on them.

We define RFId (Real Field IDentification) as a technology for identifying,
recognizing, and/or authenticating objects, events, and/or contexts in the
real world. It includes of course RFID (Radio Frequency IDentification),
smart devices as sensors, and/or various recognition techniques, with a
strong tie with platform software/hardware, and applications. As a result
of recent proposals and trials for the technology, fundamental techniques
are facing the needs to be tried in the real field, and application
experiences are to be fed back to new research challenges. In this

・場所 長崎県佐世保市 ハウステンボス ホテルヨーロッパ
WISSは，2泊3日の泊り込み形式でインタラクティブシステムに関する新しい
実装技術や面白い応用などに関して議論するワークショップです．この分野に
おいて国内でもっともアクティブな会議のひとつであり，例年150名以上の
参加者が朝から深夜まで活発で意義深い情報交換を行なっています．第15回と
なるWISS2007は長崎県のハウステンボスで開催します．論文の口頭発表に加え，
ポスター・デモセッションなどを予定しています．この分野に関心のある方の
論文投稿及び会議参加をお願いいたします．

WISS Challenge 2007
(WISS Augmented-Conference System Challenge)

インタラクティブシステムとソフトウェアに関するワークショップ (WISS)
では、論文発表の場自体もインタラクティブであることが伝統となってい
ます。1997年に導入されたチャットシステムやサブ会場へのリモコンカメ
ラでの中継をはじめとして、hiki や電子投票、「へぇボタン」などネット
ワークを利用したさまざまな試みが行われ、会場の雰囲気は他に類を見ない
ものとして知られています。しかし、WISSをより活発で有意義なワークショ
ップとするためには、さらにいろいろなアイデアを採り入れ、もっとさまざ
まな試みを続けていかなければなりません。
2004年からは「WISS Challenge」として「新たな試み」を公募し、
「Lock-on-Chat」など好評を博すシステムが登場しています。WISS2007 で
もまた「WISS Challenge」を行います。これまでのWISSに参加し、もしくは
話を聞いて、何か新しいアイデアが沸いていませんでしょうか? WISSは、論
文発表やデモを行うだけでなく、作ったシステムを 100人規模のユーザで実
際に運用してみることができる場でもあります。是非とも、学会の発表や聴
講をサポートし盛り上げる新たなシステムを提案・開発・運用して、WISSの
歴史に名を刻んでください。
●システム要件
募集するシステムは、
・ネットワークを利用し、学会参加者が発表を行いまた聴く際に活用できる
システム
・特に、発表者と聴衆、聴衆どうしのコミュニケーションを活発化するよう
なシステム
であり、
・多数の参加者 (数十人〜150人程度) が (同時に) 利用できる
ものとします。
[例]
- 投票システム
- 参考資料自動収集システム
- プレゼンテーションや質疑応答、会場の雰囲気をストリーミングする
システム
- チャットに代わるシステム
・ユーザは各自のノートPCを持ち、会場のネットワークに接続できることを
前提にして構いません。無線LANもおおよそ使えるでしょう。ユーザの PC
にソフトウェアをインストールする必要がある場合は、極力マルチプラッ
トフォーム対応であることが望まれます。
・外部のネットワークへの接続も利用できますが、あまり広い帯域は保証で
きません。
・会場周囲 (廊下等) からのネットワークアクセスは現地の状況に依ります。
・基本的に、WISSの開会から閉会まで、通常セッション中は運用し続けられ
るようにしてください。
・上記以外でも学会の発表・聴講に際して活用できるシステムの提案であれ
ば受け付けます。
・他の参加者の大きな迷惑になりかねないもの、他のシステムの著しい妨げ
になりそうなものなどは避けてください。
●応募方法とその後の流れ
・参加単位は個人でもグループでも構いません。大学や組織を跨るグループ
も可です。応募後にグループに参加するメンバーが増えても構いません。
・A4一枚の提案書 (目的、使用方法、具体的な構成がある程度は解るもの)
と必要と思われる機材・リソースのリストのファイルを、後述のアドレス
へ 2007年9月14日(金) までに電子メールにて提出してください。代表者
の氏名、所属、連絡先も忘れずにお知らせください。
・提案の内容に加え、実際に会場で利用できるリソース等を考慮して審査を
行い、採否を決定します。
・採用された提案 (通知は9月下旬の予定) はもちろん WISS2007 で実際に
設置し運用して頂きます。運用期間は開会から閉会まで、基本的に通常セ
ッション中は稼動しているものとします。設置は、初日の午前中もしくは
前日から開会までの間に行います。
・採否決定後は、各システムの連携なども相談できるよう、メーリングリス
トを作成する予定です。
・全体の運用方法は提案の状況などに応じて決定する予定です。
・開会時に使用方法などの説明のために5〜10分程度のプレゼンテーション
を行えるようにする予定です。

PURPOSE
Demonstrations and Posters provide an interactive forum in which authors
can present work to conference attendees during a special demonstration
& poster session. Demonstrations show early implementations of novel,
interesting, and important interaction concepts or user interface
systems. Demonstrations should be brief, so that they can be shown
repeatedly. Posters provide an opportunity to describe new work or work
that is still in progress, and will be more lightly reviewed than papers.
Accepted demonstrations and posters will be published in an adjunct
booklet distributed to UCS2007 attendees.
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENT
A demonstration submission and a poster submission should be a maximum
of 2 pages, in the ACM SIGCHI conference publications format, including
all figures and references. Please make sure that your submitted
abstract complies to all the formatting guidelines and is ready for
publication, since there will be no time to make major revisions.
A demonstration submission requires the following parts:
The demonstration supplement (free format) should also include the
various technical requirements such as preferred setting, space, power,
networking, lighting, acoustical, and other special equipment.
Demonstration supplement materials are for the purposes of review only
and will not be published.
A poster submission requires the following parts:
A further single page which describes the poster itself for review
purposes, this may be a draft of the poster, or text describing the
proposed layout (free format).
Acceptable format is PDF. No other formats will be accepted for review.
Your submission (2 pages paper + a demonstration supplement / a draft of
the poster) must be submitted electronically, by sending them as
attachments in an email to

UPON ACCEPTANCE
Preparatory plan of demonstrations and posters will be announced after

The conference will at minimum provide a space and equipments for your
demo or poster, a table and chairs, a power connection and wireless LAN.
If you need any special equipment you should provide that yourself,
including projectors, audio amplification, etc. Please specify all needs
in your demonstration supplement so that we can plan the demonstration

【テーマ】「情報社会のデザイン：InterSocietyと実世界アプリケーション」
コンピュータ，インターネット，携帯電話は情報通信基盤として，私たちの日常
生活に必要不可欠な存在となっています．しかしながら現在の情報通信基盤は個
別の技術を寄せ集めることで，ボトムアップ的に構築されており，それらを利用
する社会全体への効果やインパクトを十分に考慮したものではありませんでし
た．例えば，インターネットはその名の通り，小さなネットワークを相互結合す
ることにより成長したネットワークです．このような自律分散的なネットワーク
は急速に成長する一方で，全体的な制御が困難であり，それに起因する様々な社
会的問題を引き起こしています．本研究会は電子情報通信学会，人工知能学会の
三つのAI系研究会が合同し，実社会にインパクトを与え，次世代の情報社会をさ
さえる情報通信基盤となりうるようなコンセプト，技術，応用に関する議論を行
う研究会を開催します．本研究会では特に以下のような研究発表を募集します．
-- 新しい情報社会のデザインにつながるようなコンセプトの提案
-- インターネットやユビキタスネットワーク上の人々や組織を結びつける
InterSociety技術（下記参照）などを含む新しい知的情報通信技術

インターネットのブレークからおよそ10年を経た今日，人々の周辺には様々な通
信ネットワークが張り巡らされ，コンピュータや携帯電話を利用すれば，だれで
も，いたるところで，手軽にネットワークにアクセスでき，他の人々とのコミュ
ニケーションやネットワーク上に蓄積された情報の利活用が可能となっていま
す．そこでは，個々人のアクティビティが高められるだけでなく，娯楽や趣味，
お喋りや情報交換，或いは，仕事や地域的な繋がりなど，様々な関係で接続され
た人々による論理的な組織体（以降，Societyと呼ぶ）が形成され，ネットワー
クを介して活動する人々にとっての新しい社会として機能しようとしています．
今後のネットワーク社会では，こうしたSocietyのもつ意味や果たすべき役割は
ますます大きくなることが予想されます．一方，従来のネットワーク基盤だけで
はSocietyの多様な活動を支えることは難しいことが予想されます．例えば，
Societyの系統的な形成や再構築，効率的な運営を支える仕組み，性質や構造が
異なるSocietyのメンバによる協働を支援するシステム基盤などが新たに必要と
なるからです．InterSociety技術は，ユビキタス環境上に形成される多様な
Societyのメンバが，各Societyの固有の規範や特性などを克服し，相互に協調・
連携して展開される活動を支援するネットワーク，ソフトウェア（ミドルウェ
ア，アプリケーション），ヒューマンインタフェースを包括する新しい情報ネッ
トワーク技術です．
InterSocietyに関する研究会は，第1回が2005年9月に社会情報学フェア（京都大
学，http://www.ai.soc.i.kyoto-u.ac.jp/sifair2005/）のワークショップとし
て，第2回が「情報社会のデザインシンポジウム」（松下電工東京本社，http:
//www.ai.soc.i.kyoto-u.ac.jp/infosociety2006/）の研究会として，それぞれ
開催されました．

情報処理学会の情報環境領域では、ヒューマンインターラクション、グラフ ィクス、インターネットや交通システムにいたる情報環境に関わる広範な分野 において21世紀の情報技術の発展を支える研究が行われており、これらの分野 では様々な分野間の境界に属する多くの重要な研究も数多く存在します。
そこで、情報環境領域の最新研究を概観することを目的として、以下の研究 分野および関連分野の特集論文を募集いたします。

Call For Papers:
The rapid progress of mobile and ubiquitous technologies enables internet
connections, anytime and anywhere, with ease. Traditional ways of
learning and teaching, happening at fixed times and places such as
schools or offices and limited with numbers of people, are changing
remarkably. Although such technologies allow people to learn in an
appropriate context, they cannot guarantee that the learning
environments we design will be successful. Issues of design,
implementation, deployment and evaluation of such technology supported
learning environments should be investigated from interdisciplinary
points of view, including computer science, educational research,
cognitive science, and so on.
WMUTE 2008 is the 5th international meeting, extending the four previous
WMTE/WMUTE workshops held in 2002 (Vaxjo, Sweden), 2004 (Taipei, Taiwan),
2005 (Tokushima, Japan) and 2006 (Athens, Greece) to become a conference
the first time. This conference provides a forum for researchers and
practitioners of this emerging area for discussing these innovative
learning technologies and challenging research issues through high

情報処理学会論文誌「産学連携論文」特集への論文投稿のご案内
論文誌編集委員会
近年，大学と産業界との連携や大学と地域社会との連携の重要さが強調されるよ
うになってきました．それに伴い，様々な情報関連の産学連携プロジェクトが進
められ社会人博士の数も増大しています．情報処理学会論文誌編集委員会では，
産学連携による研究の成功例を集め，そこから情報学発展のための知見を得て，
IT関連産業や研究の活性化を図ることを目的として，産学連携研究に関する論文
を収録した「産学連携論文特集」を企画しました．
論文の採否判定に当たっては，本学会が掲げる多様な価値を認めるという方針の
もと，従来の研究評価に加えて，産学連携の機会が産業発展や学術貢献において
どのように有効に活かされたかの経験の分析を重視します．例えば，産だけ学だ
けでは達成できないような目標に対して，産と学が連携することで達成できた理
由を具体的なデータに即して考察すること，産学の特質がどのようにうまく組み
合わされたか，あるいはうまくいかなかったとしたらその原因は何か，といった
観点からの分析を歓迎します．また，産学連携研究の黎明期においては方法論そ
のものが重要であるという観点から，情報処理を含む産学連携自体の研究をも対
象とします．
本特集は 2005 年 5 月号，2007 年 2 月号につぐ第 3 回目の産学連携特集で
す．
これまでの 2 回の特集号企画への投稿論文の中には，せっかく有益な産学連携
論文につながるような業績を生み出していながら，学術論文として求められる要
件が満たされていなかったために残念ながら不採録になったものが数多くありま
した．その産学連携論文に求められる要件とは例えば，客観的な自己評価や他の
同様な試みとの比較評価，産学連携研究から得られた経験の深い分析，個人的な
体験談ではなく客観的な観点からの知見の記述等です．是非これまでの 2 回の
特集号で採録・掲載された論文を参考にし，多くの学会員にとって有益な論文と
なるよう仕上げていただき，奮ってご投稿くださいますようご案内申し上げま
す．

CollabTech 2008 will be the fourth international conference on
collaboration technologies. It will offer a unique forum for
academics and practitioners to present and discuss innovative ideas,

scenic Wakayama prefecture.

[PAPER SUBMISSION]
Submitted papers must be unpublished and not considered elsewhere for
publication. Only electronic submissions (PDF) will be accepted.
Papers should be formatted using the CollabTech Proceedings Template
in MS Word and should be no more than 6 A4-pages in length. Detailed
procedures will be available at http://www.collabtech.org.
All submitted papers will undergo a rigorous review process managed
by the technical program committee.
[WELCOME TO WAKAYAMA]
Wakayama is located approximately an hour from Kansai International
Airport (KIX) by airport limousine bus. Facing the Pacific, Wakayama
is a great place to enjoy Japanese seafood such as sushi and sashimi.
It has many very old, famous temples and shrines where you can
experience the spiritual heritage of Japan. Moreover, Wakayama is an
hour by train from Osaka's famous Nipponbashi electronics district-
analogous to Tokyo's Akihabara-providing access to the Otaku (geek)
culture of Japan.
