The need for transferring large amounts of data in distributed storage systems with a faster rate is growing exponentially, thus, we need to increase the bandwidth and the overall throughput for effective data transferring. One of the techniques to improve network performance is Link Aggregation which consists on aggregating different links in pursue of the required bandwidth increase. However, regardless of the relatively easy implementation and deployment, it leverages the control plane and consequently network performance to vendor specifications. In our research, we utilize Software Defined Networking to control network for effective usage of network bandwidth. In this paper, we conducted preliminary experiments and conform limitations and problems of Link Aggregation. We briefly discuss SDN based solutions.
