How To Verify That Software and Systems Development Products Are Correct and Safe

日時:3月10日(木)16:40-17:10
会場:特別会場(藤原洋記念ホール)

【講演概要】The presentation describes a disciplined methodology for certifying that the system, software and hardware are safe, secure and reliable. The methodology identifies the analysis and test tasks required to produce the objective evidence in each life cycle stage that the system (software and hardware) performs its intended functions and that no unintended consequences are created. As the new systems become pervasive in our daily lives and perform more critical functions, we need to prove the safety and security of these systems. The presentation addresses the spectrum of systems development that are utilizing the V&V methodology to produce safe and reliable systems. Some example of discovered errors are covered to illustrate the type of V&V problem solving required through V&V analysis and test techniques.

【略歴】Summary Highlights: Roger Fujii is one of the originators of the Verification and Validation (V&V) methodology. He certified the nuclear safety of strategic missile systems (Minuteman, Peacekeeper, and Tomahawk Cruise Missile). He introduced V&V into the software certification of radiation therapy devices. He introduced V&V into state and local government software development, particularly in California, Texas, Florida, Nevada, and Los Angeles County. He has managed V&V projects for NASA’s manned space missions, Federal Drug Administration, Federal Aviation Administration, Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Department of Justice, and other large Federal government organizations. He is an IEEE Fellow. He was elected IEEE Computer Society President (2016). He served on the prestigious IEEE Board of Directors, IEEE Computer Society Board of Governors, and Vice President of the Standards Activity Board. Teaching Position: Fujii has lectured at UCLA and California State University, Sacramento in the continuing professional education program on software engineering principles. Currently, he is a Guest Professor at Xiamen University, Xiamen, China. He lectures on nuclear engineering with emphasis on safe and secure nuclear power instrumentation and control systems. Previous Position (1969 – 2010): Roger Fujii was a Vice President for Northrop Grumman (retired) in charge of the Network Communication Systems Division building and deploying complex communications systems for the F22/F35 avionics systems and battlefield/satellite networking systems. He was responsible for a $1.086B division (2,300 employees), headquartered in San Diego, California. Education: Fujii has a BS/MS in Electrical Engineering/Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley. His graduate research and thesis were in field of pattern recognition and artificial intelligence based upon the work of Prof K. S. Fu. He has Management of Business Administration program certificates from the Harvard School, UCLA John E. Anderson School of Business Management, and Darden (University of Virginia). Awards/Publications: Roger has received numerous IEEE and academic awards and published (co-author) in several books.
