An Approach to Real Time Tennis Ball Speed Analysis on Tablet PC

The objective of the study was to examine and develop the system for tracking and analyzing speed of a tennis ball in real-time on an embedded system device. In this paper a tablet PC was chosen to be a study case and the algorithm for background subtraction, tennis ball tracking and speed analysis were presented. Pipelining and parallelizing optimization for reducing computational complexity also presented. The analyzed speed data were compared with the data from “Smart Tennis Sensor” by Sony Corporation. In this study, video that taken from the device was considered to be stable.
