Using head-tracking to create a shareable virtual travel experience
◎Miguel Puerta・Katsuko Nakahira T.・Muneo Kitajima(Nagaoka Univ. of Tech.)
This paper describes a system that allows a user to experience virtual travel by using a smartphone as a head-and-position-tracking device and a content server that provides information on distant places. It enables the user at a local site to experience virtual traveling by providing him/her with a distant scene augmented by supplementary information in textual and/or audio format on a tablet display, which is triggered by his/her position and orientation at the local site. The smartphone-based sensor, the tablet display, and the content server are wirelessly connected and controlled by an application developed for the system.
